Rubicon Rendezvous 4WD Tour

TRIP LEADER: Don Carter

Rubicon

Webster defines rubicon as "...a bounding or limiting line; one that when crossed commits one irrevocably."

WHAT: The world famous Rubicon Trail has become the standard by which all other 4WD trails are judged. Although a thousand words could not describe the magnificent and serene mountains, rivers and lakes, one word can describe the trail. ROCKS! Miles of them! If you liked the rocky sections of the Big Bear Bash or can handle all that Truckhaven can dish out, you’ll get a bang out of the seemingly endless rock challenges that make up the Rubicon Trail.

The trail winds from Georgetown (east of Sacramento) to Lake Tahoe. To avoid both highway and trail traffic, we’ll rendezvous Thursday evening in Georgetown and spend the night in a motel. Friday reveille will start our rocky Rubicon adventure. The plan is to take a long, hard look at the formidable Little Sluice, then run around it on the "easier" bypass route. This year, I'll be assisted by Mark Hinkley, who will lead an optional side trip through the Little Sluice. After a long hard day on the trail, we’ll camp beside the Rubicon River at Rubicon Springs.

Saturday is reserved for swimming, hiking, rubber rafting, fishing or just lazing around camp.

Sunday morning starts with the struggle up Cadillac Hill. At the top, we'll be glad to see pavement near South Lake Tahoe. We should be able to make it out early enough to marathon drive back home to Southern California Sunday afternoon.
