Pinyon Mountain 4WD Tour

TRIP LEADER: Don Carter

This weekend is a weekend of fun with a few moments of terror thrown in for effect. Stock vehicles welcome.

WHAT: Most people drive as far as the Squeeze and turn around. The Squeeze is where the trail passes between two huge rocks about seven feet apart. This would not be a problem except for the uneven, boulder-strewn ground between them. although full sized vehicles will not fit, we'll just barely squeak through with the help of expert spotters.

Waiting a little farther down the rocky trail is the Pinyon Mountain Drop-off, better known as Heart Attack Hill. This hill will get the attention of even the most seasoned four-wheeler and the park rangers give the masses a 50/50 chance of rolling on the way down. But, with Big Red's guidance, everyone has safely made it down... in the past. An optional gold mine tour and a potluck dinner are also planned, and that's only the first day!

At our isolated desert camp, we will review the day's adventures n a portable TV and enjoy the company of new friends around the group campfire.

Sunday brings an informative walk through an ancient Indian site, some interesting geological formations and the always popular Unmapped Cut-Across Trail. We'll finish up at the most impressive viewpoint in the Anza-Borrego State Park, Pont's Point.
