WHAT:
“A sea of sin, lashed by the tempests of lust and passion.” Rev. F.M.
Warrington used these words to describe 1881 Bodie. A young girl, upon learning
her family was about to relocate to Bodie wrote in her diary, "Good-bye,
God, we're going to Bodie." Bodie gained a reputation as one of the most
lawless Western mining towns. Bodie is the largest ghost town in the
western United Sates.
We’ll depart Bishop and travel along the old stage road through Chalfant Valley by ancient petroglyph sites on the volcanic tableland. Our campsite will be in the Inyo National Forest. Like travelers of yesteryear, we’ll share a potluck dinner and gather together for good cheer and outrageous lies.
Our Sunday travels take us to Mono Mills where Bodie’s lumber was milled, then into Lee Vining and Mono Lake. Our early afternoon arrival is planned for Bodie. A park ranger will guide us through the Standard ore processing mill. The rest of the afternoon is open for leisurely exploration. Time permitting, we may journey to the nearby ghost town of Masonic on our way to overnight quarters in Bridgeport. We stay in motels both nights.
