WHAT: Mini-vacations seem to be my forte, so I've resurrected one from the past. It's easy, fun and educational. We'll work our way down through the high chaparral to the Borrego Valley for check in at our hotel-home for two nights. We'll watch the setting sun spill its mellow yellows over the most spectacular view of this State Park __ Font's Point. Then it's back to the hotel just in time for our group dinner and a special slide show that sheds even more light on the area. For Saturday, it's off to the Elephant Trees and the Phantom (pictured). On Sunday we take on the Texas Dip and the San Felipe Wash and work our way into the Pumpkin Patch. From there, it's off for Moonscape, mud pots and an artesian well. All in all, three good days of badlands adventures. Lodging, lecture and group dinner included.

WHO: Anyone with an insured street legal 4WD.
FEE: $475 per vehicle (one or two people) includes hotel, arrival dinner, slide show and ABDNHA membership. Load up another couple in your 4X for only $325. $570 for late reservations. Deposit: $100
