Ramsey ProPlus 9000 Winch

My previous 4X4 had a 6,000 lb winch which never let me down but required a snatch block to multiply the pull in a few instances.  Rigging the snatch block takes time and cuts the maximum distance between you and your winch anchor in half.   So I decided on a hefty 9,000 lb winch for the 4X4NOW TJ.  I visited Ramsey's web site to learn about their products.  In the Choosing Your Winch section, Ramsey explains the differences between planetary and worm gear driven models, the difference between series wound and permanent magnet models, the options for an integrated or separate solenoid assembly and a suggested system to determine the minimum line pull for your vehicle.  I like the integrated solenoid assembly so went immediately to the Ramsey ProPlus 9000.

The Ramsey Pro Plus 9000 looks right at home on the front of the 4X4NOW TJ

"The new Ramsey ProPlusTM 9000 is the fastest planetary electric winch on the market! The ProPlus 9000 is tough enough to beat all competitors' claims. With a brand new 2.5 hp motor design, the ProPlus 9000 has a first layer rated line speed of 31 ft./min., making it the fastest 9,000 lbs. planetary electric winch available. In addition, the ProPlus 9000 runs quieter than the competition. And it features a fully integrated solenoid assembly, which unites the winch and four solenoids in a rugged all-metal housing." from the Ramsy web site.

Notice Ramsey's attention to detail and styling of  the winch mounting plate.

I was sold.  I ordered the Ramsey ProPlus 9000 and Ramsey TJ mounting plate.  Installation went quickly and smoothly.  I was especially impressed with the mounting plate.  Instead of a piece of heavy steel with some 90 degree bends, the Ramsey mount had some style.  The winch sets on a platform elevated above the sway bar.  The platform rolls down behind the sway bar.  The vertical front plate is tappered down either side of the fairlead mounting point.  The battery cables come out of the back of the winch and is fed down through a hole in the mounting plate so that it is well hidden from view and well protected.

The standard ProPlus 9000 comes with an ample 95' of cable.  But if you want more it can be ordered with about half a block (150') of cable.

I let out some winch cable to see how fast the Ramsey ProPlus 9000 really is.  I was impressed!  It is clearly much faster than any winch I'd ever used before.  And with 9,000 lbs of pull, I won't be needing my snatch block very often.
